Transcription: This bronze statue of Henry Clay was a gift from the state of Kentucky. Clay was chosen as Speaker of the House the day he became a member, which was an unprecedented distinction. He was also Secretary of State under President John Quincy Adams from 1825 to 1829. Clay lived from 1777 to 1852.
